Employers will usually expect GCSE English and Maths at grades A*-C (9-4). In addition to this, successful Parts Advisors will have a wide range of additional skills or qualifications that supports them in completing their role, such as:

  • Main retailer experience or alternatively, a strong sales background preferably within a ‘parts’ department
  • Good technical knowledge
  • Core skills in computing are usually essential. This includes web systems, email and use of excel

A Parts Advisor will report directly to the Parts Manager regarding monthly sales and gross forecasts. The Parts Manager will have a great amount of experience within the Parts Department and will collaborate with the Service Managers while being on hand to support their Parts Advisors.

Typically a Parts Advisor can expect to earn around £22,000 – £27,000. This can also vary based on a variety of different factors including location and experience. Parts Advisors can sometimes earn OTE (On Target Earnings) boosting their overall salary between £25,000 – £33,000 depending on level and experience.

OTE or On Target Earnings is usually the sum of your base salary plus any commissions or bonuses – the total compensation an employee can make if they meet all of their performance targets. An OTE salary system is often used as a commission incentive to encourage employees to meet their targets.

Parts Advisors will usually work between 43 to 45 hours a week. This could include evenings, weekends and bank holidays. Similarly to other roles, some companies may employ on a part-time basis.
